Show Excerpt _La Belle Dame Sans Merci_, and nearly all his famous odes. Troubles however beset him. His friend Haydon was in difficulties and tormenting him, poor as he was, to lend him money; the state of his throat gave serious cause for alarm; and, above all, he was consumed by an unsatisfying passion for the daughter of a neighbour, Mrs. Brawne. She had rented Brown's house whilst they were in Scotland, and had now moved to a street near by. Miss Fanny Brawne returned his love, but she seems never to have understood his nature or his needs. High-spirited and fond of pleasure she did not apparently allow the thought of her invalid lover to interfere much with her enjoyment of life. She would not, however, abandon her engagement, and she probably gave him all which it was in her nature to give. Ill-health made him, on the other hand, morbidly dissatisfied and suspicious; and, as a result of his illness and her limitations, his love throughout brought him restlessness and torment rather than peace and comfort.

The very introduction of the book is captivating,"such was the force and lovableness of Keats' personality that though Severn(his friend) lived almost sixty years longer" his chief occupation was to write and draw memories of his friend. the poems themselves are so powerfully moving, I have a lump in my throat as I write this(I'm reading about Lorenzo and Isabel). and the prose within the poetry is so immaculate, its difficult to compare.phrases such as "Trembled, she nothing said." and " the atom darkness" and "hungry Death". priceless really. recommend highly.Product details

Good read
I choose this book because Keats has a way of expressing his thoughts that is timeless. I look forward to curling up with a coffee and this book.

interesting read...
One of my most favored of authors.
If you ever get a chance to read his letters I recommend that you do so.
Poetry on needs to be improved. It's great to have Keats, and for free, and the extensive notes are smart and useful. But the formatting is truly weird. The poems are centered on the page--not at all the way Keats wrote them. So it's hard to see what a stanza is supposed to look like or what the rhyme patterns are. But things get even stranger. If you click on a footnote and then go back to the poem, the alignment is correct! Unfortuantely, it doesn't stay that way. No one I've talked to can figure out why this happens. It's really strange thing and very bad for the poems.
Here is a convenient ebook version with all the poems poor doomed John Keats published in 1820. Portable, laid out decently well, and one big wad of genius. Yours for free. What could be better?
